Indimon Internet SecuritySearch Engine Optimisation

The definition of SEO according to Wikipedia:

“Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results”

Website Meta Tags

Using meta tags according to Google. Considering Google’s advice and following the principle of keeping it simple(s), the following meta tag character values are some suggestions:

Title: 60 characters for example:

Indimon Internet Services

Description: 150 characters for example:

meta name=”description” content=”Indimon Internet Services provides clients with a dedicated internet based security and penetration testing service and provides secure web services.”

Keywords: 5-8 words for example:

meta name=”keywords” content=”Internet Services, Internet Security, Penetration Testing, Web Testing, Network Testing, Secure Websites, Secure Hosting, Security Specialist”

Author: 60 characters for example:

meta name=”author” content=”Indimon Internet Services”

Website Speed

Using site speed in web search ranking according to Google. Again considering Google’s advice, and for those who make use of a web accelerator such as the Squid or Varnish cache systems. Why not try priming your cache for the benefit of the search engine bots.

The following example uses a website’s sitemap to prime the cache with gzip compressed content using the user-agents from Google, Yahoo and Bing:

wget –quiet http://my.web.site/sitemap.xml –output-document – | egrep -o “http://my.web.site[^<]+” | wget –delete-after –header=”Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate” -U “Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)” -i – –wait 1
wget –quiet http://my.web.site/sitemap.xml –output-document – | egrep -o “http://my.web.site[^<]+” | wget –delete-after –header=”Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate” -U “Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Yahoo! Slurp; http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/slurp)” -i – –wait 1
wget –quiet http://my.web.site/sitemap.xml –output-document – | egrep -o “http://my.web.site[^<]+” | wget –delete-after –header=”Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate” -U “Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; bingbot/2.0; +http://www.bing.com/bingbot.htm)” -i – –wait 1

Depending on configuration your mileage may vary, this may help site speed by supplying the search engine bots with cached content from the accelerator when they crawl the website. After all, every little helps …
